Distance & Drive Time

The road distance from Madinah to Makkah is approximately 450 km via Highway 60. By private car the journey takes 4 to 4.5 hours. During Ramadan and peak Hajj periods, allow up to 5 hours as traffic builds on the approach to Makkah from early afternoon.

Planning Your Departure Time

This is the question most pilgrims ask and it matters — especially if you want to arrive in Makkah in time for a specific prayer:

• To arrive for Dhuhr (1pm): Depart Madinah by 7:30–8:00am
• To arrive for Asr (4pm): Depart by 10:30–11:00am
• To arrive for Maghrib (6:30pm): Depart by 12:30pm in normal season — by 10:30am during Ramadan
• Night travel (after Isha): Traffic is lighter — depart 9pm, arrive Makkah ~1:30am
